AMD Radeon RX 480 overview and price

AMD has introduced its new graphics card Radeon RX 480 , which incorporates full certification to move VR experiences, with a yield close to current GTX 980 in games, new asynchronous computation engine, a TDP of only 150 watts and all for a price of only $ 199.99. AMD has officially announced its next generation of graphics cards in the form of the Radeon RX 480 series based on the architecture Polaris 10.

Radeon cards RX 480 series will have the first AMD graphics cores designed with 14nm process technology FinFET offering a jump in the density of transistors and efficiency in performance per watt over the next products. The Radeon RX 480 is aimed at the medium-high range and enjoys an extremely competitive price, something that all players will thank AMD no doubt and more after knowing the prices of new Nvidia graphics.

If we study the photos carefully, the first thing that catches our attention is the small size that has this new model. In fact, the size of the printed circuit board is downright tiny, occupying the space for the fan almost 30% of the total size of the graph. It also draws attention (although not surprising, given the low consumption that boasts AMD for this graph) that uses a single 6-pin connector for many years now since we’ve seen such a powerful graphics that employ as low consumption, especially of AMD which it has never characterized as having alignment as frugal in consumption.

AMD says the new RX 480 achieves up to an increase in performance up to 1.7 times by reducing manufacturing node and up to 2.8 times thanks to the optimizations AMD implemented in the graph.

The AMD Radeon RX 480 will be available in two variants, one variant will have 4 GB of GRAM and another variant that will do with 8 GB. The starting price of the graphics card is $ 199 so we suspect the 8GB model will retail at a higher price. The buffer memory of 8 GB allows good gaming experience at higher, such as 1440P, for this graphics card is designed specifically resolutions. The memory of the graphics card Radeon RX 480 has a speed of 8 GB / s, which gives a total bandwidth of 256 GB / s of graphics card thanks to the use of a 256-bit bus.

It has also been revamped computing engine Graphics Core Next, in this graph and reaches version 4.0. This rejuvenated can be seen in the picture above we can see that the graph is able to process more than 5 TFLOPs, which is amazing when you consider that the Radeon R9 390X will take only 0.4 TFLOPs advantage to this new model. This makes us assume that its net income will be located near the current Nvidia GTX 980 and, let’s be clear, who would not want that graphics performance for only $ 200?
