GIGABYTE Aorus PCIe x16 M.2 lets you connect up to 4 NVMe SSDs via PCIe on Intel and AMD boards

The manufacturer GIGABYTE was showing the prototype of a joint storage unit that allows mounting up to 4 NVMe SSDs, connecting to the motherboard through a PCIe x16 slot. The novelty would be that this unit could work on both Intel and AMD motherboards. Storage units such as the Aorus PCIe x16 M.2 that can mount up to 4 NVMe SSDs connected using the PCIe x16 slot of the motherboard, are not intended for the desktop market.

Rather, they are more oriented to be used with the high-end motherboards of the HEDT series of Intel and AMD processors. At the end of the day, no matter how impressive the performance that can be obtained from this type of storage units, its gross performance can be better exploited in its use in professional activities.

Something that GIGABYTE Aorus wanted to make very clear from the beginning that the PCIe x16 M.2 does not stop being a prototype that has been developed with the sole intention of showing the new Intel Optane 905P 380 GB during the celebration of Computex 2018. According to anandtech, it is so prototype, that is the revision 0.1 of the plate. So far, only Asus and ASRock have taken similar models, although of it, already several months ago. Dell also has one of these units for sale. That is to say, that in the professional segment, there is a certain demand for this type of units that agglutinate several NVMe SSDs in the same housing, withvery high transfer speeds.

Of course, if GIGABYTE finally decided to put this Aorus PCIe x16 M.2 into production, it was not going to find a market especially saturated with competition, which could come quite well when trying to expand its production in that direction. Especially now that AMD is establishing itself with great force to the HEDT sector, and the offer of motherboards with X399 chipset with which it could work correctly, it does not stop growing day by day.
