Even though it has no new products, Sony is constantly gathering a lot of people at its MWC booth in Barcelona.
This time, the Japanese company has introduced Sony Xperia Z and Xperia ZL smartphones, as well as Sony Xperia Tablet Z.
Xperia Z was initially introduced at CES 2013 and is already available in some markets.
Since we were already familiar with the Xperia Z, now we will focus on the Xperia ZL, which has not yet been released for sale.
Features of the Sony Xperia ZL smartphone
Note that the Xperia ZL has the same "padding" as the flagship Xperia Z gadget. It runs on the Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro chipset with a 4-core (1.5 GHz) Krait processor and an Adreno 320 graphics accelerator as well as 2 GB RAM.
We deal with the same 5-inch screen, with a resolution of 1920 × 1080 pixels, a 13-megapixel camera. Android OS version 4.1.2 Jelly Bean looks identical to the promised upgrade to version 4.2 at the end of the year.
But the Sony Xperia ZL lags behind in terms of protection, as the only protection is scratch-resistant glass, but no action has been taken against dust and moisture.
After losing these benefits, the gadget had to get something new. This innovation has proven to be the infrared port and also the phone has become more compact, though a bit thicker and heavier.
In front, the Sony Xperia ZL looks like the Xperia Z, but the rear is completely different. It is made entirely of glossy plastic and has a rather nasty part at the bottom of the lid, which covers the SIM compartment and microSD slot. The lenses for the rooms are also placed in different ways.
In terms of pure performance, it is very close to the Xperia Z, confirmed by tests.
In the near future we will publish a more detailed review of the Sony Xperia ZL.
