SanDisk Extreme Portable SSD Review: very small, fast external SSD with IP55 protection
External SSDs have become one of the best alternatives in terms of storage we can buy, both in portability and performance, although they are still somewhat expensive options compared to, for example, a USB memory. More and more manufacturers are being encouraged to launch external SSD drives and, after analyzing the Western Digital My Passport SSD two weeks ago , this time we have been able to test the performance of its brother, the SanDisk Extreme Portable SSD.
The SanDisk Extreme Portable SSD is a very small and strong external SSD designed to adapt to the needs of any user. This external SSD can be found in several different capacities: 250 GB, 500 GB, 1 TB and 2 TB, each user can choose the model that best suits their needs depending on the use they are going to give. We are going to analyze on this occasion the 250 GB model.
SanDisk wanted to make special emphasis on the strength of its external SSD by creating a unit with an IP55 resistance (resistant to rain, splashes and dust), as well as being able to easily withstand drops of up to 2 meters in height.
The size of this external SSD is very small, being 96 mm high, 50 mm wide and only 9 mm thick. According to the manufacturer, this external SSD has a read speed of 55o MB / s and, as we will see in the review, although it does not reach them, it does not stay too far from them.
It is true that in terms of capacity and price, external SSDs are much more expensive than an external hard drive, however, the improvement of performance against these and against falls is much higher, so they often become excellent options to always carry with us / and not suffer if they hit the ground or get hit, even when we are using it), as well as to improve the operation of a PS4 or an Xbox One, since external SSDs can be used as additional storage with a performance improvement more than remarkable.
With all this, we leave our analysis with the performance tests and personal opinion of the SanDisk Extreme Portable SSD, an excellent external SSD that has left us very good taste.
