I Cannot Call Affliction Sweet (Bond)

Text by: James Montgomery
Tune: Bond by: Unknown

Here is my playlist of James Montgomery’s hymns:

1 I can’t name affliction candy,
And but ’twas good to bear:
Affliction introduced me to Thy toes,
And I discovered consolation there.

2 My weanèd soul was all-resign’d
To Thy most gracious will;
Oh! had I stored that higher thoughts,
Or been nonetheless!

3 Where are the vows which then I vow’d,
The joys which then I knew?
Those vanish’d, just like the morning cloud,
These just like the early dew.

4 Lord, grant me grace for each day,
Whate’er my state could also be,
Through life, in loss of life, with fact to say,
“My God is all to me!”
