Best laptop for video editing 2018 | Which is best high end laptop for editing video?
Normally we always attribute that a powerful PC is linked to a desktop computer, with which to do the hardest or most time-consuming tasks. But it is also true that there are more and more users who do not want to have the limitations of a desktop and prefer to pay good money more for portability and mobility on a laptop. For them today we will show you 4 ideal laptops to play or edit video.
We must not forget that against a desktop PC with the same specifications (or very similar) the laptop will cost significantly more. There are many reasons to justify this price but today we will not enter them since the article is going to be linked a bit to gaming (with no other choice) but above all to video editing.
So, what do we need for this video edition? Well, especially CPU, a lot of CPU, but also and knowing that NVIDIA is finally going to give support to the Adobe package with CUDA, a good GPU can help us to push even more the performance with the software of the brand.
The problem is that the better components and the faster the consumption rises and when it rises the temperature does the same. The laptops that we are going to present include good cooling systems for long video editing sessions and without pause, so do not worry, yes, be careful with your thighs or knees if you put them on.
Having said that, let’s start with the candidates:
Asus GL702ZC-GC104T
Possibly the best notebook for video editing that we can buy today. Integrates an AMD Ryzen 7 1700 with 8 cores and 16 threads at a turbo frequency of 3.7 GHz, that means it is exactly the same as its desktop version. It is completed by 16 GB DDR4 at 2400 MHz, 256 GB of SSD and 1 TB of HDD together with an RX 580.
MSI GT75 Titan 8RG-088ES
Just by reading the name we can already get an idea of what we have in hand: i9 8950HK (6c / 12T with turbo 4.8 GHz) 32 GB to 2666 (2X16 GB) 512 SSD and 1 TB of HDD at 7200 RPM and as could not be otherwise in a team in this range, a whole GTX 1080.
Acer Predator Helios PH517-51-960K
Hard competition between the models we have seen so far. This Acer Predator Helios mounts the same i9 processor as the MSI but unlike this one only has 16 GB of DDR4, 256 GB of SSD and a 1 TB HDD with a more modest GTX 1070. It is a team perhaps more focused on the title of this article than the MSI.
ASUS ROG g703gi-e5074t-be
Difficult to find without a doubt, this particular model is the only one in the Asus range that currently has the i9 8950HK of its rivals. Asus has included 16 GB of DDR4 at 2666 MHz, 256 GB of SSD and 2 TB of HDD along with a GTX 1080. Perhaps it is the best beast of the 4 models.
As you can see, 3 of the 4 candidates mounted an Intel Core i9 processor dedicated to laptops, is basically an i7 8700 desktop with 100 MHz more but with less power and no GPU. Interestingly, the Asus model that includes the Ryzen 7 1700 will be shortly discontinued and it is very possible that the performance is very even to the other 3 costing almost 3 times less in general.
What you also have to take into account is the fact that unfortunately all the models exposed (except the Asus with Ryzen) have a surcharge that someone who is going to edit video would not need to pay. This type of users do not need a GTX 1080 or lower, with an input model or simply with a GPU in the CPU itself in the purest Intel style would be enough. Same example for SSD, with hybrid HDD would be enough for editing, however RAM is always welcome, both by capacity and speed. Even if the laptop comes with a slower SSD drive, you can always go for something like Adata XPG SX6000 SSD that gives you 2100MB/s at affordable price tag.
Our recommendation is without a doubt the Asus GL702ZC-GC104T, a very competitive price, a performance but equal to the i9 maybe better (8/16 vs 6/12 at different frequencies) but without the cost of the rest for everything previously mentioned.
