Waiting in line for the new iPhone. Let’s face it: these days, a lot of people do it not because Apple’s latest rectangular revision is genuinely transformative, but because it’s become a cultural trope. Like leaf-watching or trick-or-treating, “Apple picking” is just one of those things the well-to-do do when autumn rolls around in America.

I didn’t used to be so jaded by this ritual of conspicuous consumption. For a few years there the general consensus was that the mobile world had plateaued, the days of crazy innovation well behind us. So who cared if people fritted away a part of their Friday waiting for what essentially was just the same phone with a better camera? That’s all most phones were.

But, here’s the thing: that’s not where we are anymore. We now live in a world where I can live tweet my afternoon standing in the Apple Store line, with a phone that literally unfolds into a tablet — a device that really has changed the way I use a smartphone. It’s not about Samsung vs Apple; it’s about the future vs the past … and on years like this, it sure feels like Apple is on the light side of that particular see-saw.

So when I bought the new iPhone to review it, I decided the best use of its improved cameras would be to film a train trip back up north – and back in time – to the place I lived for ten years; the place I started MrMobile; and the last place I waited in line for an iPhone.     I get mine a few months after release. And its a lot more than a camera. Its the fastest mobile processor. Apple will never do fold-able till the bugs are out of it. And thankfully I don't get my phone packed with garbage like undeleteable Facebook, and other apps, android in its wisdom thinks I should not be allowed to delete without rookitting my own phone.

    I’m still rocking an iPhone 11. Before this I was buying a new android flagship every year it was ridiculous. Then I got the 11 thinking I’d do the same with Apple phones but here I am, I love this phone and I’m gonna use it til it doesn’t work anymore. It’s more reliable then any android I’ve ever had and it’s still snappy and quick to open apps no matter what like it was when I first got it. Looks like the next big “WOW!” iPhone we get is coming September 2023 so hopefully it lasts that long fingers crossed 🤞
