Plextor EX1 SSD with USB Type-C Connector launched
The specialist in digital storage systems manufacturer Plextor has announced the newest addition to its catalog, the new generation of external SSDs ultra lightweight, small size and high performance EX1 . Weighing only 30 grams and reduced dimensions, these new external SSDs benefit from the performance of the USB 3.1 interface with Type-C connector to provide a similar to a SATA3 SSD performance high – end.
And according Plextor their new EX1 devices are capable of providing up to 550 MB / s read and 500MB / s write, of course lived up to internal SATA 3 high end SSDs if these theoretical values are true in real terms . Plextor has used TLC NAND memory chips manufactured by SK Hynix with its manufacturing process to 16 nanometers, a process that enables these chips provide high density, performance and consuming very low power. Also, the manufacturer has made use of a controller manufactured by SMI although they have not specified the exact model.
In terms of design must emphasize its small size and weight, in addition to its aluminum outer shell closely it resembles devices manufactured by Apple. Thanks to its USB 3.1 Type-C interface is compatible with all next generation devices such as the MacBook, MacBook Pro and the new course any new generation system (as all modern boards already have USB connectors Type- C).
But there is a more important fact about it, is that this USB connector 3.1 Type-C is compatible with OTG technology, which means we can use it to connect directly to a mobile phone that has this type of connector ( you also have to say increasingly are more) for use both as a means of additional storage (where to put our photos and videos for example) to display multimedia content directly without having to copy it to the terminal.
Plextor has announced that the new family EX1 will be available in stores later this month in capacities of 128, 256 and 512 GB, but have not said anything about the price.
