Difference between GT 1030 DDR4 and GT 1030 GDDR5

What are the technical differences between the GT 1030 DDR4 and the GT 1030 GDDR5? One of the main objectives of changing the VRAM memory of a graphics card is to lower its price. The problem with this decision is that, when changing the type of memory, we suffer a great loss of bandwidth going from the 48 GB / s that the GT 1030 has with GDDR5 to 16 GB / s that the DDR4 has. A big jump that damages the communication between the graphics card and the rest of the computer, which directly affects the performance in games.

This GPU with DDR4 memory also has a lower frequency value going from the 1468 MHz of the GT 1030 GDDR5 to the 1379 MHz of the GT 1030 DDR4. The decrease in the frequency of work also influences the amount of heat generated, so that the GPU with memory of less power happens to have a TDP of 20 W, compared to 30 W of the conventional model.

The company Benchmark has tested these two graphs reproducing the game GTA V , to check if outside the paper there is some difference of use and the results are not encouraging. The new NVIDIA GT 1030 with DDR4 memory have a performance that is almost half that achieved by the GT 1030 GDDR5. In addition, reaching levels of FPS that can hinder the gameplay and make users give up.

The average FPS during the entire sequence of the video is 72 FPS for the GT 1030 and 45 FPS for the GT 1030 with DDR4 memory. These tests were performed on a computer with a resolution of 1920 x 1080, a refresh rate of 60 Hz and DirectX 11. The rest of the configurations are shown in the video they have shared on their YouTube channel. Benchmark has shown that if we want to be able to play a game we need the bandwidth that GDDR memory brings to GPUs.
